Statesville / I-77 KOA

June 10, 2021

We reluctantly left the beauty of Bald Ridge Creek and pointed our motorhome toward Statesville, NC. The I85 North trip was uneventful except for the 46 miles of the roughest road construction we have ever been on.

Statesville, NC

Statesville, NC was founded in January of 1789 by an Act of the General Assembly just after North Carolina joined the United States and just after the creation of Iredell County . The Statesville area was originally known as the Fourth Creek Settlement. Some two miles north of Statesville was Fort Dobbs, which was built to defend the forefront of civilization from 1756 to about 1764. It was considered to be the center of this part of the Revolutionary War.

City Hall

We had lunch and did a bit of walking and shopping in their historic downtown.

The KOA in Statesville is one that needs major upgrades.  It appears to be a very old campground with small sites that are not very level. We were not

able to get 50 amp service when we reserved our stay a few months back.  This limited our use of air conditioning, and the use of other appliances simultaneously like the microwave, washer, dryer, and electric

hot water.  So we used the generator during the day to do laundry and cooking.  The nights cooled down enough to be comfortable with only one AC.  We will look for other campgrounds in this area and put this one on our list of campgrounds to avoid.

We look forward to our next stop just north of Harrisonburg.
